Let’s Meet
More than a century ago, a young boy named George left his homeland in Apoulia, Italy, and crossed the sea to Corfu. There, in the quiet village of Loutses, he met Anastasia — and together they began a large and lively family, full of daughters, sons, laughter and stories.
Among their children was my grandfather, Efthimios. In those days, marriages were arranged and love was expected to grow slowly, if at all. But sometimes the heart had other plans.
At a village festival, beneath music and summer lights, Thimios met Antigoni. They fell deeply in love. When their love was not approved, they chose courage over convention and ran away together, starting their life side by side.
Years later, they welcomed their son and dreamed of a home of their own. In 1970, my grandfather bought an old stone building in the village — a humble structure once used to shelter animals and store olive oil. Built in 1812, its walls carried the quiet strength of generations.
In time, that simple stone building was transformed into the heart of our family.
Today, it stands as Poulia — a home shaped by love, resilience and memory.
